When making a product, you want that product to make you money for as long as possible. Therefore you need a welcoming affiliate program that is going to make affiliates want to promote your products because you make it so easy for them. What I mean by this is making an affiliate page that offers banners, tips, resources, and a whole list of things that would make any affiliates life easier.
The easier you make it to understand exactly what you want them to do, the better. You should line up everything in steps; example: first step- PPC campaign, second step- banner ads, etc... You need to have pre made emails so that affiliates can use them for their own list or for ezine solo ads. Have a few pay per click ads made up so that they can just copy and paste what you have already written down.
The main point is that the more step-by-step you can make it for affiliates, instead of just having a simple sign up page, the more money you'll make because the affiliates will have a road map to what they need to do next in their marketing efforts, and it will all benefit you more in the end.
Some other things you can use are videos, to visually show affiliates what to do, and you can also make rebrandable e-books so that affiliates can use it in their promotional efforts. You can also hold affiliate contests where the best affiliates get cash prizes... Be creative, anything to motivate people to want to promote your products.
